In Poland METRO Group has been developing its business since mid-nineties. It is now the largest commercial company and private company in Poland. According to a ranking conducted by “Newsweek Polska” METRO Group is the most valuable company in the commercial industry in our country.


It owns 136 large-surface stores altogether including:
29 MAKRO Cash & Carry 
54 Real
39 Media Markt 
14 Saturn

 

Since 2009 METRO Group is a strategic partner "Forum Odpowiedzialnego Biznesu".

In 2006 Real took over a chain of hypermarkets Geant. It has been the largest merger on the Polish retail market ever. The Real chain was joined by 19 new Geant stores and other 7 in the phase of planning or construction.


The company supports the Polish enterprises development. 95 percent of food products and 80 percent of non-food products sold in METRO Group stores come from Polish suppliers and Polish production companies. Some 3 000 Polish suppliers cooperate with the METRO Group. A few dozens of them have the opportunity to offer their products in the company’s stores outside Poland. This helps promoting Polish products, which thanks to their highest quality, become valued goods on foreign markets.

METRO Group is a socially responsible company. It supports numerous charity actions and social programs both on the national level and through its local outlets


In 2000 METRO Group implemented its educational program known as Metro Education aiming at preparing students of secondary schools to work in large-surface stores. The program was complemented with Metro Student – a program of scholarships for the best participants of the Metro Education.

METRO Group with the Academy for the Development of Philantropy in Poland and the foundation of Agora runs a scholarship program called “My Scholarship”. The financial means obtained within the program are assigned to university students. An Internet site www.mojestypendium.pl has been launched.


Additionally separate chains organize their own scholarship and internship projects, such as „The International Retail Management” of the chain Media Saturn Holding Polska or the participation of MAKRO Cash & Carry in the internship program “Grasz o staż”. ( “Play for an internship”)
